TRAINING: Every day is different. But, standard routine is 7:00 a.m. conditioning training. 10-11:30 - Eat and rest. 12-2 - Sparring (MMA/BJJ/Boxing). 2-4:30 - Eat and Rest. 5-6:30 - Sparring (MMA/BJJ/Boxing). Rest after that
When and why did you start training for fighting? Babalu started training in Muay Thai and submissions in 1987. He started wrestling in 1994.
What ranks and titles have you held? Brazilian National Muay Thai Champion 1992/ Brazilian National Wrestling Champion 1998, 1999, 2000 South American Wrestling Champion 1998/ IFC Light Heavyweight Champion 2003 Jungle Fight Champion 2004/ Cage Rage 9 Champion 2004. In 2003, Babalu defeated Trevor Prangley, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Jeremy Horn in one night to win the IFC Light Heavyweight championship tournament.
Do you have any heroes? My heroes are training with me every day.
What is your favorite technique? I like knees and the arm bar but I always show a new technique.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? The UFC title is definitively my objective and with this I want to put Gracie Barra Combat Team where it belongs.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I stopped my education (university) to dedicate to my training.
What was your job before you started fighting? Always a fighter.
