Main Event to Broadcast UFC 127

MAIN EVENT, Australia’s leading Pay-Per-View channel, today announced it had secured the exclusive rights to broadcast UFC 127 on Sunday, February 27.
MAIN EVENT, Australia’s leading Pay-Per-View channel, today announced it had secured the exclusive rights to broadcast UFC 127: PENN v FITCH from Sydney’s Acer Arena, on Sunday, February 27.

With tickets to UFC 127 completely exhausted within 22 minutes of going on sale, MAIN EVENT will now be the only place Australian sports fans can watch this blockbuster event, with live and exclusive coverage of the entire main card to commence at 2.00pm AEDT.

MAIN EVENT will offer UFC 127 as a pay-per-view event. MAIN EVENT is exclusively available to all FOXTEL, AUSTAR and OPTUS residential subscribers and through leading FOX SPORTS venues.  Fan can log onto www.mainevent.com.au and purchase now.

MAIN EVENT first broadcast UFC to Australian television screens in February 2007 and has been at the forefront of the organisation’s rapid growth in the country ever since.

“As Australia’s home of live combat sports, MAIN EVENT is delighted to have secured the exclusive broadcast rights to UFC 127,” General Manager FOXTEL On Demand, New Media and Pay-Per-View, Mr Brendon Moo, said.

“MAIN EVENT and UFC have forged a strong relationship over the last five years with the UFC brand continuing to grow in popularity in that time and I have no doubt UFC 127 in Sydney will be one of our most successful events yet.”

“UFC 127 is the one of biggest fight cards to ever take place on Australian soil,” UFC Managing Director of International Development Marshall Zelaznik, said. “It sold out the Acer Arena almost immediately and we know fans across the country are going to want to be part of this stacked, super-card of an event. It is a testament to how rapidly the sport is growing here that there are two Aussies on the main card in huge matches.”

Headlining UFC 127 will be a welterweight showdown between former two-division champion BJ Penn and UFC title challenger John Fitch, while Australian stars George Sotiropoulos, undefeated in all seven of his UFC bouts, and Kyle Noke will also put their skills on show as part of a thrilling five-bout card.

Hawaiian BJ Penn is fresh from a stunning 21-second annihilation of former welterweight champion and Hall of Famer Matt Hughes at UFC 123, but looks certain to face fierce competition from experienced grinder John Fitch.

While Penn v Fitch will headline the show, there is no doubt local interest will be centred on Aussie combatants George Sotiropoulos and Kyle Noke.

Geelong native Sotiropoulos, will look to continue his climb up the lightweight rankings when he takes on Russian star Dennis Siver, while Noke will do battle with Californian, Chris Camozzi .

Sotiropoulos returns to the scene of his most famous victory to date, with the undefeated 33 year-old well aware that a victory will take him one step closer to a UFC lightweight title shot.

“Siver is probably the best striker I’ve faced to date but I know what I need to do to overcome him and, with the backing of Australian fans, can’t wait to go out there and put on a show.”

Hailing from Dubbo, three hours west of Acer Arena, Kyle Noke, will realise a dream when he steps into the Octagon for the first time on home soil.

The former Ultimate Fighter star is coming off back-to-back victories and like his Victorian counterpart Sotiropoulos, is counting on passionate home support to get him over the line.

Also featuring on the UFC 127 card will be a middleweight grudge match between English star Michael Bisping and American Jorge Rivera while, in a battle of welterweight punchers Carlos Condit collides with crowd favourite Chris “Lights out” Lytle.

UFC 127:  PENN V FITCH is available on MAIN EVENT to FOXTEL, AUSTAR and OPTUS residential subscribers as well as selected FOX SPORTS venues.
