Manuwa vs. Oezdemir set for UFC 214

After his second consecutive UFC win on Sunday, Volkan Oezdemir made clear his intention to take on fellow light heavyweight contender Jimi Manuwa next. On July 29, Oezdemir gets his wish, as he faces the British banger in a UFC 214 bout at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

In the main event, it’s the long-awaited rematch between UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former titleholder Jon Jones. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 9.

A native of Fribourg, Switzerland, Oezdemir has taken the 205-pound division by storm in 2017, scoring back-to-back victories over Ovince Saint Preux and Misha Cirkunov to sail into the number five spot in the light heavyweight rankings. Certain to move up this week after his 28-second knockout of Cirkunov in Stockholm, Oezdemir knows that he can secure a shot at the title if he can defeat Manuwa this summer.

One of the most feared knockout artists in the game, London’s Manuwa has finished five of his six UFC wins on his way to become the No. 3-ranked light heavyweight in the world. But the “Poster Boy” has never looked better than in his two most recent bouts, as he picked up Performance of the Night bonuses for knockouts of Saint Preux and Corey Anderson that have him in prime form heading into his UFC 214 showdown with Oezdemir.
