Rousey Headlines UFC 190 in Rio against Correia

On August 1, Bethe Correia gets what she's wanted. After calling out Ronda Rousey and defeating two of her teammates, Brazil’s unbeaten “Pitbull” will challenge Rousey for the UFC women’s bantamweight title in the main event of UFC 190 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement in Rio Friday.

Also announced for the card will be a rematch of one of the greatest fights in PRIDE history, as Mauricio “Shogun” Rua battles Rogerio Nogueira in a light heavyweight bout fans have demanded.

Considered by many to be the most dominant champion in UFC history, the unbeaten Rousey has established that reputation with five successful defenses of her title, the last three over Sara McMann, Alexis Davis and Cat Zingano taking a combined 96 seconds. In Campina Grande’s Correia, Rousey will face a striking specialist who kicked off her UFC career with a win over Julie Kedzie before back-to-back wins over the champion’s “Four Horsewomen” teammates Jessamyn Duke and Shayna Baszler.

In 2005, Brazilian countrymen Rua and Nogueira fought like bitter enemies in an epic PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix quarterfinal bout won via decision by “Shogun.” Ten years later, the two veteran stars will meet once more in what is one of the most highly-anticipated rematches of this era.
