By Roman Stubbs, Washington Post

McMann has not yet told her daughter about everything she has been through, about her difficult upbringing, about Jason or Steven. She doesn’t know when that day will come, but for now, she wants to enjoy moments like these. She allowed her daughter to stay at school with her friends that afternoon, knowing that in a few short weeks they would say goodbye to this place and begin their cross-country trip to start a new life.
